Public Field Hearing - April 10!
"Losing Ground: The War on Buffelgrass in the Sonoran Desert"
~
Mariachi MixtecaCongressman Grijalva (US Representative of Arizona's District 7) has scheduled a field hearing in Tucson for the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands entitled "Losing Ground: The War on Buffelgrass in the Sonoran Desert".
~
The hearing will be held on Saturday, April 10th, 2010, from 10am to somewhere around noon at City Hall.
~
You will not have an opportunity to speak, but your presence would be a sign of the importance of this issue to our community. There will be an opportunity to provide written testimony to the subcommittee - instructions can be found on our website under the Documents Tab and are due on April 8.
 ~
The format of the hearing is as follows:
  • Statement by representative Grijalva
  • Panel of experts (chosen by the Department of the Interior) who get 5 minutes each
  • Q&A of experts
  • Panel of outside witnesses (mostly recommended by SABCC) who also get 5 minutes each
  • Q&A of witnesses

The panel of outside witnesses at this point includes Sarah Smallhouse, Chuck Huckelberry, and Dr. Richard Mack, an expert in invasive grasses in the West from Washington State University.
