Here is a chance to enjoy the unique waterways our desert has to offer and to make an impact on their protection and health. On May 24, 2008, the Tucson community will be conducting region-wide litter pickup in some of our most precious creeks and washes.
This is part of a greater effort for National River Cleanup Day™ hosted by American Rivers. Last year, about 600 tons of garbage were removed from rivers in the U.S. during this event. At Cienega Creek, just southeast of Tucson, we were able to remove 20 large bags of garbage. Our riparian areas are very important to us in Arizona because they are so rare (less than 2% of the total land area), but are critical for the survival of 60-75% of our wildlife species. We all know how precious water is to our community and the importance of keeping it clean.
Tucson cleanup events include:
§ Cienega Creek hosted by PAG
§ Rincon Creek hosted by the Rincon Institute
§ Tucson Clean and Beautiful Adopt a Wash program
*Plus each event is being assisted by the Master Watershed Stewards.
Please see the link below for more information on each event.
